A productive day to start forever.

So, it has been officially one day since Huan moved here to the Philippines. The past day and a half have been totally productive, and I’ve been lucky enough that he hasn’t been jet lagged, so I can follow a normal sleeping schedule.

After Huan landed, I attempted to book an Uber, but to no avail. Most of the UberX vehicles (larger than the Uber Black vehicles, usually an Innova or similar size), so we ended up getting a flat rate airport taxi. Taking a taxi to the terminal cost P130, but the flat rate using an airport taxi was P440 (ugh). However, opting for this guarantees that you have the taxi, and you don’t have to worry about traffic increasing your prices.

Tip 1: If you’re landing and have no one to pick you up, you’ll be approached by a lot of taxi drivers, and the rate can cost 10 times as much (we were offered P1300 by one group). Go straight to the greeters area, and the taxi service by the exit is more than half the price of those who immediately approach you.

Tip 2: However, if you’ve got a SIM card with data or access to WIFI, a friend told me that his trick to catching an Uber is to zoom out of your map and call the driver after booking. You might have to wait, but it’s worth the wait if you want the quality of an Uber car service, as well as the ability to pay via credit card or PayPal.

My preferred greeting for Huan and other special people.

We spent most of the day unpacking and organizing all his things. We took a little time to get him a SIM card and grab dinner at Ramen Nagi, which is almost always my recommendation when people ask what to eat. I’m a fan of their Original King (Butao) with pork belly, but Huan got the Butao with shoulder since it’s more lean.

The Original King is the bomb. I love pork fat.

Today was an absolutely productive day, so much to the point I’ll probably need to break it down into smaller posts. We spent the whole day all over Manila: from dropping by the US Embassy, to canvassing furniture in Paco, visiting Intramuros, entertaining the Sadama siblings at our condo, shopping at Market! Market! and finally ending the day at Abenson Global City. I totally wore out Huan because while commuting home, he knocked out in the cab while I talked to the driver. Don’t worry, I won’t let him sleep while commuting alone!

Empty street = photo opp!

Please let us know if you have anything you want us to check out when we go back to Manila Bay Area! 💕
